2021 Easter Cup Day Preview

We have nine races to look forward to at Caulfield this Saturday afternoon including two Group 3 races.

Our full 2021 Easter Cup Day Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 12:25pm

Noel Rundle Handicap (1400m)

Fontein Diamond has put together a pretty impressive record from her 15 career starts having won five times and placed a further three.

Her last start win at The Valley over 1600m suggests she will be competitive in a race like this one and can kick start our day on a winning note.

1 Unit Fontein Diamond

Race 2 - 1:00pm

Bill Collins Handicap (1400m)

Pride Of Jenni resumes in the Bill Collins Handicap and the filly by Pride Of Dubai looks well placed.

She has managed two wins from her five career starts and is yet to miss a place.

Barrier two helps and 1400m is ideal.

2 Units Pride Of Jenni

Race 3 - 1:35pm

Listed Redoute's Choice (1100m)

Marine One was far from disgraced in both the Blue Diamond Peview and Prelude for the colts and geldings earlier this prep.

The son of Capitalist has been given a freshen up for this assignment and can run well in a field that lacks a lot of depth or proven horses.

1 Unit E/W Marine One

Race 4 - 2:15pm

Bert Bryant Handicap (1600m)

Saltpeter has put together two impressive thirds together at Flemington and The Valley leading into this race.

The son of Pierro was narrowly defeated last time out behind the smart Air Defence and if he can replicate that form, he will go close in a race of this quality.

1/2 Unit E/W Saltpeter

Race 5 - 2:55pm

Jack Elliot Handicap (1100m)

War Correspodent snuck up the inside to go past Snapper at The Valley last start but I think the market has them around the wrong way in this event.

Snapper has drawn a wide gate but that will not worry him as he takes up a forward position anyway.

He meets War Correspondent 1.5kgs better at the weights for their last meeting and he will be in this race for a long way.

1 Unit E/W Snapper

Race 6 - 3:35pm

Robert Taranto Handicap (1000m)

Alfa Oro has not been seen at the races since October last year when he finished fourth in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint, beaten 1.65 lengths behind Graff.

The son of Bachelor Duke has managed six wins from nine career race starts and is a horse with an enormous amount of upside.

This looks a really nice way for him to start his campaign and he gets in really well at the weights.

Barrier six suits.

4 Units Alfa Oro

Race 7 - 4:15pm

Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m)

Persan has been incredibly consistent throughout his 21 career race starts.

He was placed in 11 successive races leading into the 2020 Melbourne Cup where he went within two and half lengths of the winner Twilight Payment.

He returned in the autumn with a first up win at The Valley in trying conditions when carrying 60.5kg to victory and he will only take improvement from that effort.

The drop in weight will suit for this Group 3 event and although he has drawn a tricky gate, he still represents value at his current price.

2 Units Persan

Race 8 - 4:55pm

Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m)

The Group 3 Victoria Handicap looks a very even race on paper with plenty of winning chances and different form limes to follow.

Pretty Brazen was very game first up when getting to within half a length of So Si Bon and she meets that horse better at the weights for this assignment.

Age Of Chivalry will take benefit from his first up run at The Valley in difficult conditions.

He has a good record second up and at 1400m.

1 Unit Pretty Brazen

1 Unit Age Of Chivalry

Race 9 - 5:30pm

Benchmark 90 Handicap (1600m)

Ritratto makes his way east to contest the last of the day at Caulfield.

The son of Fiorente was excellent three back with a two length win at Morphettville before back to back seconds at his last couple.

He was just 1.5 lengths off the talented import Ironclad in the C.S Hayes last start on Adelaide Cup day and that horse has since gone on to win again at Stakes level.

The four year old has won eight from 18 overall and five of seven at this distance.

3 Units Rittrato
