Ladbrokes Park Preview – Saturday 1st May

Ladbrokes Park will host Melbourne’s major Saturday metropolitan card this week and nine races are on the program.

The rail will remain in the true position around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Good (4) range.

Race 1 - 12pm

Ladbrokes Handicap (1000m)

See You In Spring was an impressive winner on debut and can continue her rise through the grades at Ladbrokes Park on Saturday.

The Siyouni filly showed ability at the trials prior to making her debut and put the writing on the wall with an easy win at Cranbourne.

She’ll take plenty of improvement for that experience and she can win again.

Race 2 - 12:35pm

Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1000m)

This is an open race from a betting perspective and at publish, we’re faced with a little under $5 the field.

Harlem Blues recorded a well-deserved victory in a midweek race here last time and looks a winning chance again.

The Your Song gelding has continued to improve with each of his first three starts back this time, and he gets into this race well under the conditions.

Race 3 - 1:10pm

IVE Print Handicap (1300m)

Cordilla was an impressive winner second-up and I can’t find a reason why she won’t be able to replicate that performance and result at Ladbrokes Park on Saturday.

Cordilla has been a great performer for the Danny O’Brien stable throughout her career, and she typically finds her best form with a couple of runs under her belt.

Will Price has options from the rails draw and the mare will relish a relief in the weights with his claim.

Race 4 - 1:45pm

Ladbroke It! Handicap (2400m)

Grand Promenade is unlucky not to have already won this prep, but gets another chance in the Ladbroke It! Handicap.

Grand Promenade tuned up with a good effort for second behind Mohican Heights at Mornington when resuming and only just missed, beaten in a photo finish by Independent Road at Caulfield last time.

He will relish getting out to a mile and a half and I am happy to stick with him.

Race 5 - 2:20pm

Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Handicap (1400m)

I’m eager to take on the favourite Yulong January and I’m confident that the resuming Sircconi can run a big race.

Sircconi has been a great horse for connections throughout his career, which has had life breathed back into it since transferring to the care of Nick Ryan.

The Nicconi gelding hasn’t been seen at the races since October, but he was impressive in some good Spring Carnival races and finished second behind subsequent Group 1 winner Savatiano in the PB Lawrence Stakes most notably.

1400m is his go and he will give them something to chase.

Race 6 - 3pm

Ladbrokes Punter Assist Handicap (1300m)

This is one of the day’s more open races, and a horse like I Am Eloquent has claims on winning at a nice price ($13 at publish).

I Am Eloquent needed the run when she finished seventh in the Birthday Card Stakes when resuming, but she was far better second-up when fourth in the VOBIS Gold Distaff a fortnight ago.

She’ll get some relief in the weights with an apprentice aboard and can fight out the finish.

Race 7 - 3:40pm

Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Handicap (1300m)

Another wide-open affair that boasts $7 the field at publish.

Palace Whisperer has been largely good this prep and this shapes as another winnable race for her.

Palace Whisperer recorded consecutive wins at Wodonga and here at Ladbrokes Park three and four starts back, and while she failed to beat a runner home in the Bendigo Guineas, she responded with a close-up second in BM70 company last time out.

She is at peak fitness and at around the $10 mark, we can have an each-way play.

Race 8 - 4:20pm

Ladbrokes Switch Handicap (1700m)

Approach Discreet can win the penultimate race at Ladbrokes Park on Saturday.

The Dawn Approach gelding was a quality performer for the Adrian McGregor yard last time in, and went to the paddock after winning on BM78 company at Rosehill.

There was a lot to like about his resuming effort for fourth over 1400m at Caulfield and he is yet to miss placing in three previous second-up attempts.

Race 9 - 4:55pm

Ladbrokes Easy Form Handicap (1000m)

He hasn’t won in four starts back this time, but I am going to give Vowmaster one last chance in the last at Ladbrokes Park on Saturday.

Vowmaster won each of his first two career starts with something in hand at the end of last year, and he has only been fair at best since resuming this time.

This is a drop in class from his credible fifth placing in the VOBIS Gold Dash last time, he is at peak fitness and really doesn’t have any excuses.
