Rosehill Gardens Preview – Saturday 3rd July

A whopping ten races will be run and won at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, July 3rd.

The rail will be set out three metres around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Heavy (8) range.

Race 1 - 11am

Cleanaway Handicap (1300m)

Bazooka needed the run when finishing sixth, beaten more than three lengths at Rosehill Gardens a fortnight ago, but I’m confident he’ll take plenty of improvement into Race 1 this week.

The Smart Missile gelding returned several typically strong performances during the autumn and ended his prep sixth behind Hungry Heart in the Phar Lap Stakes.

He has a class edge over most of these rivals and will take beating.

Race 2 - 11:35am

Highway Class 3 Handicap (1100m)

I’m very keen on Hellenism in this week’s Highway Handicap.

The Helmet has been a clear standout for Coffs Harbour horseman Aiden St Vincent since arriving in his care, and she returned from a long break to finish second behind a fit Mirra Vision here at Rosehill last month.

She was flat in BM72 company at Warwick Farm second-up, but I am happy to forgive that run, and she is just the best horse in this field, in my opinion.

Race 3 - 12:10pm

The Agency Real Estate Handicap (2400m)

No Compromise has been excellent since arriving in Australia, and he can record a third-consecutive win at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The Pins gelding has been a good horse since making his debut in New Zealand, but he already looks to have gone to another level since arriving in Chris Waller’s care.

Having finished third, beaten a length and a half by Achiever here in May, No Compromise simply hasn’t looked back and has won consecutive BM78 races over a mile and a half and 2000m respectively.

I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.

Race 4 - 12:45pm

Ranvet Handicap (1100m)

There are some quality horses engaged in the fourth at Rosehill on Saturday including Vreneli, who will be making his eagerly awaited return.

Vreneli was nothing short of outstanding during his debut preparation, winning three of four starts and finding form around some handy gallopers.

This is probably the toughest task that he has been set, but he has had the benefit of a few trials in the lead-up to his return, and he’ll get some relief in the weights under Jean Van Overmeire.

Race 5 - 1:20pm

Midway Handicap (1100m)

This is a wide open race, and a horse like Nicci’s Song has claims on winning fresh.

She hasn’t been seen at the races since April, but Nicci’s Song was a strong and consistent performer last time in, and was an easy winner in BM58 company at this point of her prep.

She gets into this race well under the conditions and we can have an each-way play at the price.

Race 6 - 1:55pm

Lynette Lamphee Memorial Handicap (1500m)

I’m happy to give Grand Piano another chance to win at Rosehill Gardens this week.

The Lord Kanaloa gelding returned some lovely efforts in decent races last time in, and while he needed the run when fifth of sixth in the Takeover Target Stakes when resuming this time, he has only just missed in races at Eagle Farm and Randwick most recently.

He looks to be in peak order for Saturday’s contest and he is drawn to receive a lovely run under Nash Rawiller.

Race 7 - 2:35pm

Quayclean Handicap (1500m)

This is a rise in class for O’mudgee, but most of these horses are stepping up from the midweekers, and I think he can make the successful transition.

O’mudgee has returned several pleasing efforts this time, but was particularly impressive at Canterbury last week, and greeted the judge nearly three lengths ahead of his rivals.

Josh Parr jumps into the saddle and with even luck, the horse can record another win.

Race 8 - 3:15pm

ACY Securities Handicap (1300m)

Papal Warrior returned to winning form last time, and he looks well placed to make it two in a row at Rosehill on Saturday.

He has continued to improve for each of his four starts back this time, and Papal Warrior was rewarded for his condition when beating home a smart Saturday field last time.

He looks to be at peak fitness now and with appropriate luck, he is more than capable of striking again.

Race 9 - 3:50pm

Elite Sand & Soil Handicap (1800m)

Wicklow is yet to taste anything but success since arriving in Australia and he can win again at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The Twilight Son gelding showed some ability at the trials prior to stepping out at Newcastle in May, and he wasted little time in stamping himself as won to watch with a lovely win to break his maiden.

That effort appears to have opened the floodgates, and he has been nothing short of outstanding in a part of BM72 races since.

Fitter fourth-up and over the route, he will take a power of beating again.

Race 10 - 4:30pm

XXXX Handicap (1400m)

I’m going to have something on St Covet’s Spirit in the last at Rosehill this week.

St Covet’s Spirit finished down the order behind the talented Lost And Running earlier this prep, but she has been good since that effort, and was last seen finishing second, beaten a head in BM72 company at Warwick Farm.

Jason Coyle has reportedly been thrilled with her since her last start and this is a pretty open race.
