2021 TOUR Championship Preview

A new FedEx Cup champion will be crowned this week in Georgia as the famed East Lake course plays host to the TOUR Championship.

Last week’s thrilling six-hole playoff battle between FedEx Cup leader Patrick Cantlay and Bryson Dechambeau is going to be tough to top, but with the final field featuring 28 players that have played this course previously, there’s going to be no shortage of drama.

The ‘Starting Strokes’ format is in effect this week, leaving Cantlay as the favourite at -10 under, followed by Tony Finau (-8), Dechambeau (-7), Rahm (-6), and Australian Cameron Smith at -5.

With plenty of value on offer, our best bets for the TOUR Championship can be found below.

Our Suggested TOUR Championship Betting Strategy

  • 1 Unit Jon Rahm
  • 1 Unit Brooks Koepka
  • 0.5 Unit Scottie Scheffler
  • 0.5 Unit Erik van Rooyen Top 10 Finish

The TOUR Championship Best Bet

Jon Rahm (-6) – $5.00

What’s not to like about the Spaniard?

Since his US Open win, Rahm has gone T3 at The Open, outright third at The Northern Trust and T9 last week at the BMW, good enough for fourth in the FedEx Cup standings.

More importantly, he owns a pair of Top 10 finishes at East Lake and wrapped things up last year with a final round 66 to finish fourth behind Dustin Johnson.

East Lake is a difficult beast to tame, but it’s typically favoured those who rank well in Greens In Regulation and distance off the tee.

Rahm just so happens to rank second in GIR percentage, while he also finished fifth in driving distance last week at Caves Valley, making the favourite very difficult to back against in the grand final.

The TOUR Championship Best Value

Brooks Koepka (-2) – $51.00

Nobody has more to play for than Brooks this week.

The big man was the outright leader heading into the final around at this event back in 2019 before collapsing on day four to finish third behind Rory McIlroy.

With revenge on his mind, Koepka will be hoping to build on a recent run of form that includes two Top 10’s at the US Open and The Open, as well as aT22 last week at the BMW following a final round 68.

Like Rahm, Koepka is another long driver of the ball, as we saw last week when he finished tied for eighth in average distance off the tee.

There is some ground to make up in terms of strokes, but his recent form makes him worth something small at 50-1.

The TOUR Championship Best Roughies

Scottie Scheffler (-1) – $101

The Starting Strokes format makes it difficult for roughies, but if there’s one guy that can turn the tables it’s Scottie Scheffler.

The American finished fifth in Strokes Gained: Approach last week at Caves Valley and also ranks sixth in birdie average on TOUR.

His effort at East Lake last year was admirable when he roared home with a final round 65 to finish fifth, so with some unfinished business, I think Scheffler is worth a wager at triple figures.
