2021 Kingston Town Classic Preview

The Group 1 Kingston Town Classic is a weight-for-age race run over 1800m at Ascot racecourse.

The race has been won by some quality horses including Kingston Town (1982), Vo Rogue (1988), Better Loosen Up (1989) and more recently Arcadia Queen (2018).

Our runner by runner guide and 2021 Kingston Town Classic Preview can be found below.

Regal Power

The 2020 All-Star Mile winner has raced just five times since winning that race and his two runs so far this prep in the west have been full of promise.

He was beaten just over a length in the Northerly Stakes behind Dance Music and just over two lengths in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes at his next outing.

A win in the Group 1 Railway Stakes in 2019 was followed by a sixth in the Kingston Town and at his best, he is more than capable of being competitive in a race of this quality.

Trap For Fools

2018 Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes winner Trap For Fools will tackle the Kingston Town Classic for the third time on Saturday.

The eight year old gelding is a veteran of 54 career race starts and although his best days are clearly behind him, he continues to show a love for racing.

He comes into this race off the back of four consecutive placings, albeit in a lower grade, and in a race that lacks a lot of depth compared to other years, he may run a cheeky race.

Neufbosc

Neufbosc put together back to back wins at Ascot earlier this year but has failed to place in eight subsequent runs since.

It has been a long prep for the seven year old grey so fitness should not be an issue for him but nothing suggests to me that he is a threat in this race.

Too Close The Sun

Both runs this prep by Too Close The Sun have been lackluster and he would need to dramatically improve to be any chance in this Group 1 event.

He is a capable galloper but has failed to win in four attempts at the highest level of racing.

Platoon

Platoon has one win from his last 22 trips to the race track and it is hard to see him winning a race of this quality.

He was beaten over nine lengths in the Railway Stakes behind Western Empire and would need a miracle reversal in form to be competitive in this event.

Notorious One

Lightly raced six year old Notorious One has managed seven wins from16 career race starts in his short career so far.

He went into the Railway Stakes last start off the back of six consecutive placings which included three wins and finished fourth, beaten 6.3 lengths.

Despite two attempts at 1800m without a place, I don’t think the step up in distance is a worry and he is a horse with some upside, which is something you can’t say about a few of these runners.

Western Empire

Western Empire is clearly the horse to beat in the 2021 Kingston Town Stakes after his demolition job in the Railway Stakes when he scored by four lengths.

The four year old son of Iffraaj has now won seven of 12 overall including his last six in a row and the scary thing is that he will be better over 1800m.

Dance Music

Dance Music kick started this campaign with a win in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes and followed that with a third in the Lee Steere Stakes.

He was no match for them when stepping up to Group 1 company last start when a big price and this looks a tough ask again.

He is a winner at 1800m in the past and has drawn well in barrier two.

Kissonallforcheeks

The lone mare in this year’s race, this daughter of Written Tycoon has managed eight wins from her 16 career starts including two wins so far this prep.

She is a very progressive type of horse who is racing well right at the minute and although she is stepping up in distance for the first time, she could run into the placings from the good draw in barrier four.

Searchin’ Roc’s

Searchin’ Roc’s is the only filly in the 2021 Kingston Town Classic and she is the most interesting runner in the field.

She has earned her shot at Group 1 glory having won five of her seven career starts including the Group 3 W.A Champion Fillies Stakes at Ascot last start.

This may be a gap too far at this stage in her career but she has a heap of upside and can not be discounted.
