Daily Racing Tips – Kingsford-Smith Cup Day Special

Eagle Farm - Race 6 2:03pm AEDT

No. 4 Ranch Hand

Ranch Hand mixes his form, but if he can produce a similar effort to his two-length win over the track and distance last start, he’ll be tough to beat.

Chris Waller’s colt rock-hard fit now at this stage of his prep and he’s typically done some of his best racing on rain-affected going.

Barrier 16 leaves him with work to do, but if Tommy Berry can get back and save his best for late, he’ll be in this for a long way.

Eagle Farm - Race 7 2:38pm AEDT

No. 5 Soxagon

Soxagon is on track to start the BRC Sprint as favourite, and it’s not hard to see why.

Mark Currie’s talented speedster ate up the heavy conditions on the Gold Coast last start, racing four-wide and finding something extra down the straight to win by three lengths.

He should take plenty of improvement away on a quicker backup, and this is a much kinder draw with Brad Stewart retaining the ride. Expect him to be arriving late.

Eagle Farm - Race 8 3:18pm AEDT

No. 3 Caboche

We’re getting a nice price for Caboche, a horse that looks set to peak now in his fourth run back.

The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old has found the line for back to back second’s in Sydney, both on a heavy track against slightly easier company.

He was only gunned down late at Scone a couple of weeks ago and everything from that performance suggests he’ll handle 2400m now. With a jockey upgrade (James McDonald) and another wet track expected, he’ll go close to winning another one for Waller.

Eagle Farm - Race 9 3:58pm AEDT

No. 4 Eleven Eleven

This is another wide-open edition of the Kingsford-Smith Cup, and I think it sets up nicely for Gregory Hickman’s five-year-old Eleven Eleven.

The son of Fastnet Rock returned in good order at Scone a fortnight ago, crossing the line for fourth after making up some good ground in the finish.

He’s the type of horse that typically needs a run under his belt, and his second-up record suggests he’ll be tough to hold out. This is a rise in class, but he’ll handle the sting out of the track and has drawn ideally.
