2022 Caloundra Cup Day Preview
A twilight meeting at the beautiful Sunshine Coast awaits us this Saturday with the running of the time-honoured Caloundra Cup.

Race 1 - 12:53pm AEDT
Fast Talking is a horse racing well right at the minute and he comes into this race having won two of his last three.
He will have a fitness edge on a lot of these and five of his seven career wins have been on the dry track.

Race 2 - 1:28pm AEDT
Bonaparte could not have been much more impressive when winning first up at this track and distance.
The six year old gelding scored by 2.5 lengths in that Benchmark 75, beating a strong field including Kosciusko.
This race doesn’t look a hell of a lot harder and we are getting very good each way odds.

Race 3 - 2:07pm AEDT
I’m with both the Gollan runners over the short course here in the third.
The Move has won six of 16 overall with four of those coming over 1000m.
His runs have been spaced out in the last year or so but a recent trial win leading into this first up assignment suggests he is ready to fire fresh.
Niedorp is also a classy sprinting mare who is capable of a high rating on her day.
She was disappointing first up at Eagle Farm, but I’m willing to forgive and she should land just off the speed from barrier three.

Race 4 - 2:47pm AEDT
Rupertaar has won four of his seven starts in his short racing career including a first up win at Randwick on the heavy track.
There is no doubting he was disappointing last time out at Rosehill but I’m willing to give him another chance with the change in scenery.

Race 5 - 3:23pm AEDT
The Tony Gollan trained Spiritualised led throughout when scoring by three lengths at this track and distance first up.
The son of Spirit Of Boom led throughout in that race and had the race won at the 200m when kicking clear of his rivals.
The wide barrier shouldn’t be a concern as he can kick to the front and although this is a step up in class, he clearly has some ability.
2 Units Spiritualised
Race 6 - 4:02pm AEDT
London Banker is a last start winner of the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup at Eagle Farm, a race he won by two lengths.
The son of Tavistock outstayed his rivals in that race which seems the superior form rather than the Ipswich Cup in my opinion.
The barrier is some concern but he’s a horse racing in good form and he has a class edge on a lot of these stayers in the Caloundra Cup field.
2 Units London Banker
Race 7 - 4:45pm AEDT
The Bjorn Baker trained Battleton is yet to break through for a win in three starts so far this prep but he has been placed on every occasion.
He was beaten by less than half a length in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic and then was beaten by two lengths by the very smart Kiss Sum in the Gunsynd Classic at Eagle Farm.
Having drawn perfectly in barrier four for the Winx Guineas, he looks very well placed in this grade against his own age group.
5 Units Battleton
Race 8 - 5:20pm AEDT
Kubrick has been a beauty for connections and the five year old is a winner of over $1.2 million in prize money.
Over 34 career race starts, he has been placed in 15 of them including a narrow loss at Listed level last time out at Eagle Farm.
He is a horse that usually takes a while to find his best form during a prep and will be ready to peak at his fourth run in.
Salateen is a very consistent mare who has now been placed in 13 of 20 career starts including all three so far this prep.
She was beaten less than a length in the Group 2 Dane Ripper last start and she represents great each way value at double figure odds.

Race 9 - 5:55pm AEDT
This is short of Excelman’s ideal distance but the five year old is capable of running well fresh.
He won the greys race on Melbourne Cup day over this distance during the spring and has been competitive in black type racing in the past.
Due to an outside barrier, he’ll need a little luck but the double figure odds are enticing to close out the day on a good note.
