Rosehill, Saturday 2nd July Day Preview

There are 10 races on the program at Rosehill on Saturday with plenty of opportunities to build a bank.

Our full Rosehill, Saturday 1st July Day Preview can be read below.

Race 1 - 11:00am AEDT

Highway Handicap (1100m)

These Highway Handicaps are often won by a progressive type of horse on the rise.

The Paul Messara trained Shalstar has won three of four in her short racing career including a first up win on the Kensington track at Randwick.

The three-year-old filly clearly has ability and although this is a step up in class, she looks the one to beat.

Race 2 - 11:35pm AEDT

Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m)

Songblue broke through for a much deserved win at Randwick last start when winning the Highway race by over two and a half lengths.

The three-year-old has been placed in five of seven overall and has proven he handles the rain effected going.

Barrier four and Jason Collett are both positives.

Race 3 - 12:10pm AEDT

Benchmark 72 Handicap (1200m)

The well bred De An Andretti was an impressive winner on debut and then tackled the Group 2 Furious Stakes where she was beaten by over five lengths behind Jamaea in September last year.

The daughter of I Am Invincible has had two trials leading into this first up assignment, the latest of which was a very easy two length win.

She is the second emergency for this race but should she gain a start, she’ll be hard to beat from barrier four.

Race 4 - 12:45pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (2400m)

Our Candidate has not been first past the post since the 24th of August 2019 but he looks ready to win in my eyes.

The seven year old has been placed in his last two and looked the winner at the 150m last time out at Warwick Farm before Shameless Miss fought back to win.

He drops half a kilo on that effort and has been placed in six of nine starts at this distance.

Race 5 - 1:20pm AEDT

Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m)

Authentic Jewel has been well beaten in two Listed races this prep but she has two wins from two starts in this grade of racing so will appreciate the drop back in class.

The daughter of I Am Invincible has been a consistent performer during her 13 race career placing eight times and the apprentice will give her some weight relief.

2 Units Authentic Jewel

Race 6 - 1:55pm AEDT

Benchmark 72 Handicap (1500m)

The Godolphin gelding Kanazawa was beaten by the barest of margins when resuming at Randwick over 1200 on the heavy track before stepping up in class and finishing third last time out.

This race does not seem any harder than that first up contest and the step up in distance will only suit.

1 Unit E/W Kanazawa

Race 7 - 2:35pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m)

The Chris Waller trained Bella Rouge has proven to be a talented filly with back to back wins at Flemington and Rosehill leading into this assignment.

She carried 56kg to victory last start at this track and distance beating home the smart Lady Of Luxury and Nicci’s Fling.

A filly in form who has won two from two at 1400m.

2 Units Bella Rouge

Race 8 - 3:15pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m)

Cross Talk is only a lightly raced four-year-old gelding who has won three of his five race starts.

He resumed this prep with a 2.79 length win at Canterbury before running into one better at Randwick last start.

In that race, he finished just over half a length back from Jojo Was A Man, but they beat home the third horse by a further two lengths.

Drawn well and Tim Clark steers.

2 Units Cross Talk

Race 9 - 3:50pm AEDT

Benchmark 88 Handicap (1500m)

I was encouraged by the Australian debut of Irish Legend at Rosehill three weeks ago when the four year old was beaten under half a length over 1500m.

He is only going to take improvement out of that run especially considering that was a good going where he doesn’t excel.

Second up, he is two from two and drops a mammoth 4.5kgs on that first up effort.

2 Units E/W Irish Legend

Race 10 - 4:30pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1300m)

Waihaha Falls could not have been much more impressive when winning by over three lengths first up at Randwick.

That was his third win from eight career race starts and he tackles a similar grade of race here albeit with more weight.

He can finish our day off on a winning note.

2 Units Waihaha Falls
