Daily Racing Tips – Saturday 30th July

The Valley - Race 5 3:10pm AEST

No. 6 Mimi’s Award

Mimi’s Award has been knocking on the door of another win.

The Lindsay Park-trained mare has found the money in each of her last three starts, including two runs back in the Banjo Patterson where she was only denied a win on protest.

The tempo over 2800m really didn’t suit at Flemington last time out, but back in trip and drawn to get back and run on, she’s a live chance.

Rosehill - Race 8 3:30pm AEST

No. 6 Oscar Zulu

Oscar Zulu represents good value in the Winter Stakes.

The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old was seen doing his best work late in the Civic Stakes two runs back, and he can be forgiven on his latest start in the Winter Stakes given he was held up coming into the straight.

Not only has he won four of his eight starts at Rosehill, but he’s also a genuine wet-tracker with a couple of wins to his name on heavy going. He drops 4kg’s with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, and with a little luck from the wide draw, he should be finishing strongly.

The Valley - Race 7 4:30pm AEST

No. 2 Umgawa

Umgawa looks well-placed to return to the winner’s stall following a game effort for third at Flemington last time out.

The son of Shamus Award over-raced early but still managed to run on well before being held up over the final stages. He was a winner the start prior at Sandown on a bottomless track, form that reads well with the third place-getter going on to win his next start.

Another rain-affected track should suit, and he does have a win over the mile already to his name.

Morphettville - Race 8 4:43pm AEST

No. 5 Extremely Lucky

Extremely Lucky rates as one of the major players in a wide-open edition of the Lightning Stakes.

Will Clarken’s lightly-raced three-year-old resumes after gapping his rivals by over four lengths in his last start, a much-improved effort following a luckless run the start prior in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze.

He won his maiden on debut at Murray Bridge late last year, while the recent form of Todd Pannell over the last two weeks is tough to ignore. With bigger races than this in his sights, he’s the one to beat.
