Cranbourne Preview – Wednesday 28th September
Cranbourne will host this week’s Victorian metro midweek meeting, and eight races are on the program.
The rail will be set out nine metres around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Soft (5) range.
Race 1 - 2pm
I thought that Rule Of Time was good on debut and she can break her maiden at Cranbourne on Wednesday.
The daughter of Sebring settled off the pace in the Geelong maiden and mustered a nice turn of foot to fill the minors.
With improvement for that experience, she can begin her rise through the grades.

Race 2 - 1:35pm
Sir Rockford is another galloper who can break his maiden at Cranbourne today.
The Shocking gelding showed promise at the trials prior to debuting and flashed late the finish second, beaten a head by Staunch at Sale.
With improvement, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.

Race 3 - 2:10pm
I’m pretty keen on Calico Jack in the third at Cranbourne this week.
Calico Jack finished midfield in Group 3 company on debut last year and was immediately put away, and I thought there was plenty to like about his first-up effort for third, beaten only half a length following a lengthy spell.
He’s sure to enjoy plenty of improvement for that hit-out and will take a power of beating in something like this.

Race 4 - 2:45pm
The Peter Moody stable is absolutely flying and Crux, a one-start maiden, has opened a $1.70 favourite in this race.
He does look to have big talent and upside and I can’t find one to beat him, but that price is far too short for me (for a runner of Crux’s experience), and I am happy to stay out of this one from a betting perspective.

Race 5 - 3:20pm
Mountain Range has improved for two starts back this time, and I think that this looks a great opportunity for him to return to winning form.
The Teofilo gelding finished fifth, beaten just over two lengths at Pakenham when resuming, and his condition just gave out a little when he was outsprinted at Geelong last time.
Fitter third-up and from the good draw, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.

Race 6 - 3:55pm
In my opinion, this is the most open race on the program, and a horse like Master Bartholdi has claims on winning at a nice price ($13 at publish).
The Statue Of Liberty gelding won each of his first two starts for the Liam Howley stable in summer, but he clearly needed his first run back this time to tune up.
We know how good he can be at his best, and he’s finished worse than second only once at this point of his preparation.

Race 7 - 4:30pm
Obfuscation is yet to return a poor effort, and he’s the one that I want to be with in the penultimate race at Cranbourne on Wednesday.
The Holler gelding placed on debut at Bendigo last year and was sent to the paddock after breaking his maiden, and he returned from a year off to fill the minors in BM64 company.
He’ll enjoy plenty of improvement for that effort and will take plenty of beating, with appropriate luck in running.

Race 8 - 5:05pm
Tauhine rates as a live each-way chance in the last at Cranbourne on Wednesday.
She hasn’t been seen at the races since June, but Tauhine enjoyed a good campaign last time in, winning at Pakenham before stepping out in Saturday metro company.
She clearly races well fresh and is another whom we can have something on each-way ($9 at publish).
