2022 Christmas At Rosehill Gardens Preview

Racing returns to Rosehill on Saturday with a huge ten race card.

Our full 2022 Ladbrokes Rosehill Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 12:20pm AEDT

SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

The track is currently a good 4 and the rail will be out 5m. The first on the card is an 1800m event for the three and four year olds.

Secret Glamour from the Maher / Eustace camp was an impressive last start winner over the mile at Sandown. She raced wide without cover and was still too strong for them.  The step up to 1800m will suit and I think she can win again.

Rosovo hasn’t been far away in three runs this campaign.  He’s been getting back and doing his best work late.  The step up in trip looks ideal, he gets in nicely with Reece Jones’ claim and he should be able to settle closer from the inside draw.

Race 2 - 12:55pm AEDT

HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

The Dramatist was brilliant first up at Rosehill.  He then went to Newcastle where he started favourite but had no luck at all in the straight.  He’s fitter for two runs back and has drawn beautifully in barrier 5.  I think he’ll be hard to beat.

Brett Cavanough and Jason Collet team up here with Sungblue.  He wasn’t beaten far last start behind Deep Snow and he should appreciate getting out to 1500m.  Drawn favourably in barrier 7 but I just wonder whether he might be better with a bit of sting out of the track.

Race 3 - 1:30pm AEDT

ACY SECURITIES HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

The son of I Am Invincible, Gaza Blanca, could not have been more impressive last start when breaking the track record at Cranbourne over 1200m.  If he produces that run again, he’ll be hard to beat here.

Operative is a promising type.  He was very good at Rosehill last start when he bullocked his way into the clear and was strong to the line.

Great Barrier Reef tackled some quality races during the spring carnival and wasn’t disgraced.  He was terribly unlucky last start when dropping back in grade and with the right run, he’ll be right in this.

Race 4 - 2:05pm AEDT

TAB Handicap BM78 Fillies & Mares (1350m)

Frumos boats a handy record of three wins from five starts.  She was terrific behind Hope In You Heart back in August and her only other defeat was when she never saw daylight over 1400m at Rosehill.  She’s drawn the inside, Kerrin McEvoy goes onboard and it’s hard to see anything beating her.

3 Units Frumos

Race 5 - 2:40pm AEDT

Midway Handicap BM72 (1300m)

Deep Snow from the Angela Davies yard at Gosford is a talented gelding.  He won well in a BM72 here last start.  He has drawn awkward but with a bit of luck he can win again.

Passistas is a mare in form.  She’s on the quick back up after racing at Canterbury last Friday night and again, with a bit of luck from the wide draw, she’s a chance.

1 Unit Deep Snow

Race 6 - 3:20pm AEDT

Fujitsu General Handicap BM78 4YO & UP (2000m)

Smirk was good in feature races during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.  She was doing her best work late over 2000m at Kembla last start.  She’ll be fitter for three runs back, the blinkers go on and I think this is a winnable race for her.

Zoumon was super impressive over 2040m at Moonee Valley three weeks ago.  He’s 2 from 2 over this trip and from the Waterhouse / Bott stable, he will be hard to run down.

2 Units E/W Smirk

Race 7 - 4:00pm AEDT

Ranvet Handicap BM78 (1200m)

Rainbow Connection showed good ability early on but was disappointing last prep.  His two runs this time is have been solid, having been beaten narrowly on both occasions. Matthew Dunn looks to have him back to his best and he’s a great chance in this.

American President is unbeaten in two starts over 1200m.  He just found them a bit too sharp over 1000m first up at Kembla.  If he likes the good track, he’ll run a big race.

1 Unit Rainbow Connection

Race 8 - 4:40pm AEDT

Furphy Handicap BM88 (1400m)

Titanium Power loves this trip.  A winner of seven races, he won well first up but was disappointing at Newcastle last start.  The blinkers go back on here and I think he can bounce back.

The Chris Waller trained mare, Sur La Mer, raced well without much luck earlier in the spring.  She was terrific on Oaks Day in the Inglis Bracelet and she’ll be right in this.

2 Units Titanium Power

Race 9 - 5:20pm AEDT

Kia Ora Prague Handicap BM88 (1100m)

I Am Me will start a short-priced favourite in this event and it’s easy to see why.  Her form reads well, especially over this trip, where she’s three from four.  She was a dominant winner here four weeks ago and the Maher / Eustace team have given her a nice trial in between to keep her up to the mark.

Key Largo, from the Bryce Heys stable has been terrific in both runs this time in over 1000m.  He’s always there abouts and he’ll be there at the finish.

3 Units I Am Me

Race 10 - 5:55pm AEDT

Merry Christmas Members Handicap BM72 (1500m)

I’m with the Godolphin galloper, Camaguey.  He was never on the track at Kembla last start and still stuck on well to finish a close third.  He gets out 1500m, his third run back and he’ll jump from barrier 3.  There’s a lot to like about him.

Estadia Mestalla was very impressive in his first Australian run.  He will need luck from the wide draw but he’s got plenty of ability.

2 Units E/W Camaguey
