2023 Chairman’s Stakes Day Preview
Group racing heads to Sandown this Saturday afternoon with a quality card of racing to get around.

Race 1 - 12:35pm AEDT
I willing to take a chance with Millane who was highly touted at the start of his last prep.
I prefer the Peter Moody trained colt back at the shorter trip and the blinkers have been added for this first up assignment.
We haven’t seen him at the trials but he is a classy colt if he can put it all together.

Race 2 - 1:10pm AEDT
The Maher and Eustace trained colt Veecee couldn’t have been much more impressive when winning by 2.5 lengths on debut at headquarters.
He jumped awkwardly that day but showed a really nice turn of foot to pull away in the concluding stages.
I’m not sure the step back to 1000m is the best move but he has shown his class and has a fitness advantage on most of these in the Chairman’s Stakes.

Race 3 - 1:45pm AEDT
The Peter Moody trained Hennessy Lad has won twice in four career starts but looks well placed in this event.
He was unplaced for the first time in his short career at The Valley last time out but he was held up for the entire straight and should have won.
The step up in distance suits and the apprentice will give weight relief from the good draw.

Race 4 - 2:20pm AEDT
Colorado Cruz broke through for her maiden win at Colac two back when scoring by 2.75 lengths at Colac.
The daughter of Nicconi was narrowly denied here at Sandown last start when she stormed home late.
This is a step up in grade but she gets in well at the weights and represents good each way value.

Race 5 - 3:00pm AEDT
Euro Dandy is a consistent type who rarely puts in a poor performance.
The four year old gelding has been placed in 10 of 15 career race starts including all four so far this prep.
He was impressive when scoring by 1.75 lengths at Geelong two back and then followed that up with a narrow defeat at The Valley over 1600m two weeks ago.
drawn well in barrier three and is clearly the horse to beat to my eye.
3 Units Euro Dandy
Race 6 - 3:40pm AEDT
Peter Moody has another exciting four year old in the form of Daytona Bay who resumes with a record of four wins from five starts.
He beat the smart Jimmy The Bear in an open 3YO race at Flemington during the prep and was a winner at this track when closing out that prep.
Jamie Kah steers from barrier two and he looks the obvious one in a race of this quality.

Race 7 - 4:20pm AEDT
Rose Quartz has been excellent right throughout this prep and she has been placed in three of her last four now, all in black type company.
There may be more talented horses in this race but she will have a fitness edge over the majority of them and has drawn to get a gun run from barrier two in the Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes.

Race 8 - 5:00pm AEDT
Detonator Jack is yet to put in a bad performance in his short eight start career which has netted him five wins to date.
He is yet to miss a place in that time and and it took a war horse like So Si Bon to get him last time out at this track.
This race does not look any harder than the last one and he drops 3kg in weight.

Race 9 - 5:40pm AEDT
It’s tough to fault Riverplate during this prep with three wins from four starts and the penny seems to have dropped for the lightly raced four year old gelding.
He’s two from two here at Sandown and he again looks placed in this race jumping from barrier two.
