Doomben Preview – 1st March 2023
Doomben will play host to this week’s midweek metropolitan meeting. The rail will be out 8m which can tend to favour the on pace runners. The track is currently a soft 5 but should come back to a good 4 for the eight race card.
Our Ladbrokes preview can be found below.
Race 1 - 1:38pm AEDT
There was a bit to like about the debut performance of Jump’N Fly. The Tony Gollan trained filly just found them too sharp over the 1000m dash. She never looked to be travelling comfortably but still finished off well. The 1200m here looks ideal for her and I think we’ll see a much improved performance from her.
Her dam was a winner over 2400m so you would expect that she will continue to improve as she steps out over further.

Race 2 - 2:13pm AEDT
Naval Trader was terrific on debut over 1200m at Eagle Farm 3 weeks ago. The son of Merchant Navy enjoyed a soft run before being asked for an effort, where he let down strongly, chasing home the leader and narrowly missing. He’ll be better for the experience and strips fitter. With the claim for Jaden Lloyd he drops to 55.5kgs and from the inside gate he looks hard to beat.

Race 3 - 2:48pm AEDT
Nashira has been racing in terrific form since joining the O’Dea / Hoysted camp. After a trio of second placings, he scored a well deserved victory over 1000m at Eagle Farm last start. He was unlucky not to win over this course and distance two starts back and looks ideally placed here. Ben Thompson will afford him every chance from the inside draw.
1 unit – NASHIRA
Race 4 - 3:23pm AEDT
Pentito has racing well without winning. He comes out of some very strong form races and should find this easier. With three and a half weeks between runs, Jason Edwards has kept him up to the mark with a 1050m trial, in which he won comfortably. He can tend to get a long way out of his ground, so he looks well suited in the small field and Ben Thompson sticks with him.
1 unit – PENTITO
Race 5 - 3:58pm AEDT
Adam Campton is doing a great job with the former Hong Kong galloper, Charge On. The six year old had no luck at all last start when posted wide for the entire event. Despite the tough run he still stuck on well to finish fourth behind Comrade Rosa in Saturday metropolitan grade. Senior rider Elione Chaves goes back on and from the good draw he’ll enjoy a soft run.
1 unit E/W – CHARGE ON
Race 6 - 4:33pm AEDT
There’s no doubt Chris Munce would have used a few choice words with regard to Sea Ripple in recent weeks. The Sebring mare has been luckless in all three of her runs this preparation.
She gets out to the mile here and she has previously placed over this distance. She’s fit, the blinkers have been removed and if she can get a clear run I think she’ll be hard to beat.
1 unit – SEA RIPPLE
Race 7 - 5:10pm AEDT
Do Well Legend hasn’t been far away in two starts since coming to Queensland. The Waller trained gelding got back and took a while to get going last start over 1800m but his last 100m was solid. Back to 2200m here will suit and from the inside draw he’ll be able to settle closer.
1 unit – DO WELL LEGEND
Race 8 - 5:42pm AEDT
Tony Gollan puts the polish on Miss Tambo these days and the mare has performed well in four starts since joining the premier stable. She lost her position mid race last start and ended up further back than intended but made up good ground late to finish fourth. She’s drawn to get the right run and Kyle Wilson Taylor goes back aboard.
1 unit E/W – MISS TAMBO
